What Does It Mean When You Dream
Some people always question the essence of dreaming. Well, there are many reasons why people dream. Let's discuss a few of them.
A dream is a spiritual activity, dreaming is a spiritual experience. Every spiritual experience has its meaning and effects on those who experience them.
The ability to see dreams is a great one. Not everyone has the ability to see dreams, that makes this ability also a special one.
It is very crucial for everyone to have the ability to see dreams. This is because people can often receive spiritual guidance and directions for their lives and that of others through dreams.
Throughout the holy Bible, there are instances of people seeing dreams from God, which often turned out to be guidance from God for their lives. A few notable examples can be found in the following scriptures:
- Joseph's Dreams (Genesis 37:5-11)
- Pharaoh's Dreams (Genesis 41)
- Jacob's Dream (Genesis 28:10-17)
- Nebuchadnezzar's Dreams (Daniel 2 and 4)
- Solomon's Dream (1 Kings 3:5-15)
- Joseph’s Dream (Matthew 1:20-24)
- The Magi’s Dream (Matthew 2:12)
Interestingly, these dreams often carried important messages (which had direct or indirect impacts on the lives of those who saw them) and were sometimes interpreted by others, such as Daniel and Joseph. These had the divine gift of dream interpretation.
The ability to see dreams and the gift of dream interpretation didn't end in the biblical times. There was a prophecy from God spoken through the mouth of the prophet Joel, pointing to the prevalence of the ability to see dreams in this present generation.
Joel 2:28-29 NLTThen, after doing all those things, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions. In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on servants—men and women alike.
According to Joel 2:28, in the last days, many will be enabled by the Spirit of God to see dreams. These are not going to be just ordinary dreams, but prophetic dreams from God—which are capable of providing divine revelation, instructions and directions to the dreamer and those around them.
That said, if you often see dreams, be thankful to God for that ability. But if you're not a Christian, understand that your dreams may not be that revelatory. You'd struggle to see dreams from God as a non-Christian.
God wants to guide us even through dreams, but we'll have our part to play—which is becoming Christians and getting filled with the Holy Spirit. So that we could align with the scripture and Joel 2:28, and receive its promise.
Spiritual Meaning Of Dreams
The spiritual meaning of dreams largely depend on the kind of dreams we see.
There are three categories of dreams:
- Divinely inspired dreams or prophetic dreams
- There are soulish dreams, and
- There are demonic dreams
Divinely inspired dreams are dreams from God. They are often filled with divine presence. They often carry a message from God. Sometimes, they come with the feelings of hope, comfort and encouragement. Every Spirit-filled Christian is aligned to constantly or occasionally receive prophetic dreams.
Soulish dreams are often dreams from the human mind. They include dreams about things the dreamer thought about during the day (including both negative and positive thoughts). That is to say, our thoughts have the ability to manifest as dreams when we sleep. That is why it is important to think only pure and godly thoughts.
On the other hand, demonic dreams are often dreams influenced by evil spirits. Such dreams include nightmares and spiritual attacks that manifest as dreams.
That said, the spiritual meaning of dreams will often depend on the category of dreams being seen.
Not all dreams will have a spiritual meaning. Most soulish dreams don't have any spiritual meaning, because they come from the human mind.
But most divine and demonic dreams will often come with a spiritual meaning and implications. That is why these dreams must always be paid attention to, interpreted and solutions profered to them when necessary.
Final Thoughts On What It Means When You Dream
Dreaming is a spiritual experience. You dream because you are a spirit being. When someone is unable to see or remember dreams, it means that they are not in a good spiritual state. They need to work on your spiritual life.
The ability to see dreams and the gift of dream interpretation are powerful gifts from God.
God speaks to us through dreams and brings us revelations, clarity, inspiration, instructions and guidance through them.
The spiritual meaning of our dreams will often depend on the category of dreams that we see.
Stay blessed.
